Specialization 3:

18 March 2019

I have begun my third Specialization Project, which is a foray into fur creation and animals. I said I would be creating a cartoon style cat and I intend to do so, however the cat character in question I am working on has two form, a 'rest' form and a 'battle' form; thus I am hoping to create both as they provide distinct challenges and experiences while modelling.

Progress from right to left.

I have been trucking on with my calm cat model and I think things are going rather well, I started to run out of idea for what to do in regards to the torso and so took the plunge by moving on to the eyes, mouth and ultimately am fairly pleased with the result. Following that and at suggestion I added whispers and then also decided toe beans (pads) would be cute, teeth, a tongue, I then finally fixed up the toes I feel before adding claws and pupils.

Hopefully this all looks good!

Hi, my apologies if I don't make it to class today, but I hope this update shows I have been trying to make progress!

I have been making a lot of progress as well as trying to experiment with different fur options and textures, but I am ultimately leaning towards fur not suiting this type of model, even when modeled on and certainly not when done via particle effects, here is an example of the former though, the latter I did not save images of.

The above were attempts at sculpting fur but I dislike how bumpy it makes the model look.

Here is where I currently am with the model and I am fairly comfortable with the design, appearance and adaptions, I have a few references pieces to use that could give me a bit of a faux fur like, similar to what the cheeks have, but otherwise am fairly pleased with the end result.

Where I am up to with the 'battle form'.

OK, I have changed around the vertices and edge loops, how does this look Pat?

This is per-sculpting so I'd clean it up a bit later, but I wanted to know if I am going in the right direction first.

And now with textures and sub-divided once. I am concerned about sub-dividing further but it may be the only way I can sculpt int he fur.
